FOLLOWING the suspension of former Senate leader, Senator Ali Mohammed Ali Ndume, APC, Borno South by the upper chamber for a period of six months, Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has led a delegation to appeal to Senate President Bukola Saraki to have a re- think on the matter. Financial Crimes Commission is after him over his loyalty to President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki. He alleged that the EFCC was also after him and other senators due to their opposition to the confirmation of the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, by the Senate. The lawmaker denied the allegation that his Bank Verification Number had been linked with 20 different company and personal bank accounts, urging the EFCC to contact the firms. A former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi, has said that the winner of the 1993 presidential election, Chief MKO Abiola, could not have died of natural causes. Abiola whose election was annulled by the Ibrahim Babangida-led military administration in July 1993 was arrested by the late Gen. Sani Abacha-led junta in 1994 when he declared himself the winner of the election and his resolve to reclaim his mandate. The business mogul turned politician later died in detention in controversial circumstances on July 7, 1998. But Bamaiyi, the Chief of Army Staff under the Abacha regime, has insisted in a book that was launched in Abuja on Thursday that former Head of State Gen. THE trial of a former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Rashidi Ladoja, for alleged N4.7bn fraud continued, yesterday, with the prosecution witness narrating to the court how the ex-governor sent £600,000 to his daughter, Bimpe, in London sometime in 2007. The prosecution witness, Mr. Adewale Atanda, who was then Senior Special Executive Assistant to Ladoja, told the court that the money was part of a sum of N634m, which some stockbrokers contributed to prevent Ladoja’s impeachment. He was however impeached eventually. According to him, the ex-governor had earlier instructed the sale of some shares belonging to Oyo State Government to the said stockbrokers who later contributed N634m to fight his impeachment. The N634m, Atanda said, was part of the commission and profit realised by the stockbrokers. The witness said the N634m was delivered to him by the stockbrokers, adding that he had to first remove about N180m, which he had earlier borrowed and spent on Ladoja’s instructions during t
