Sanusi: Why we suspend N6bn fraud probe, says agency

The Chairman, Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, Mr. Muhuyi Magaji, says the agency has achieved 80 per cent success into the investigation of alleged misapplication of N6bn by the Kano Emirate Council. Magaji told the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Abuja that the commission had also recorded a “water tight case against the emirate council’’ over the allegations of financial misappropriation. “We have also identified our primary suspect in the course of the investigation,’’ he said, but declined to name the suspect,” he said. Joshua, Klitschko rematch for October

A post-war record crowd of 90,000 packed into the national stadium to watch the fight but staging an outdoor clash in the autumn is more problematic. As such, the Principality Stadium in Cardiff is considered the frontrunner to host the rematch, should it take place in the UK, because of the retractable roof. But, with Wales in action at home for four consecutive weekends across November and December, promoter Eddie Hearn has ear-marked  October  28 as the most viable date for a fight in the Welsh capital. He said,  “I believe Klitschko will go ahead with the rematch so we are looking at dates. “The Principality Stadium is not really available in November because of rugby so 28 October is the option. Most of December is available but I don’t really want to go that late. “Josh has a bit of a sore shoulder, Klitschko has had a tough fight, his face was bashed up. You have got two more weeks in May, all of June and after that they will be thinking ‘right let’s get back in camp’.

Fresh supremacy crisis brews among Obas

Ibadan—There appears to be no end in sight to the supremacy battle among Yoruba obas as the Olugbo of Ugbo kingdom, Oba Obateru Akinruntan, who presides over a reconciliation committee he and others set up to facilitate unity among the monarchs, has said he remains the most prominent king in the zone. The monarch had recently been in the eye of the storm by assuming leadership role among the kings. His claims generated scathing criticisms. Oba Akinruntan, the Chairman, Yoruba Obas Conflicts Resolution Committee, had fruitlessly arranged peace meeting between the late Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade and Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who had been at each other’s throat over who actually was greater. This crisis lasted for years until Oba Sijuwade joined his ancestors. But, the enthronement of Oba Eniitan Ogunwusi as the new Ooni had extinguished all embers of discord and calmed all frayed nerves only for Oba Akinruntan who is seen as a mediator, to claim he is the authentic proge

Man City to dump Iheanacho

Image
Machester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho is set to become the most surprising member of manager Pep Guardiola’s summer clearout at the Etihad Stadium with the club willing to listen to offers for the 20-year-old Nigerian. Kelechi Iheanacho German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have already expressed an interest in the young forward who was tipped for the top by former City boss Manuel Pellegrini and has scored 21 goals for City despite making only 20 starts. Under Guardiola however, Iheanacho’s progress has been restricted by the £27million signing of young Brazilian international centre forward Gabriel Jesus and there is an acceptance he could move on to help finance a rebuild at the club this summer. Though there is likely to be Premier League interest in Iheanacho, Dortmund are likely to be able to offer Champions League football next season and the chance to play with star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he stays at the club. Manchester City are likely to ask close to £20

North Korea’s new missile can reach US bases in Pacific – Experts

North Korea said Monday it had successfully tested a new type of rocket in its latest missile launch, as analysts said it showed an unprecedented range that brought US bases in the Pacific within reach. Sunday’s launch was a “new ground-to-ground medium long-range strategic ballistic rocket” named the Hwasong-12, the official Korea Central News Agency (KCNA) said. Leader Kim Jong-Un personally oversaw the test, it said, and “hugged officials in the field of rocket research, saying that they worked hard to achieve a great thing”. The isolated North is under multiple sets of United Nations sanctions over its nuclear and missile programmes, which have triggered a global alarm. The missile was launched on an unusually high trajectory, with KCNA saying it flew to an altitude of 2,111.5 kilometres and travelled 787 kilometres before coming down in the Sea of Japan (East Sea). That suggests a range of 4,500 kilometres (2,800 miles) or more if flown for maximum distance, analysts s
