I got N4000 to chop off woman’s head, hand’

A man, Taofik Adara, arrested in Badagry on Sunday with female body parts, yesterday said he was paid N4000 by a herbalist to kill the woman. Adara, alias Kie-Kie, was paraded at the Lagos State Police Command Headquarters, Ikeja. He said he chopped off the woman’s head with a cutlass, while two alfas (Islamic clerics) and a herbalist held her hands. The victim, he added, had been hypnotised by a native doctor before he killed her. Adara, 61, said the cutlass used was given to him by the herbalist who hired him. He said the woman, whose identity was still unknown, was brought to him from Sango Ota, Ogun State by the two alfas who needed fresh human parts to prepare a concoction for their client. An expectant mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Orefuwa, was the centre of attraction at the 21st convocation of the Lagos State University (LASU) yesterday. She is the best graduating student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 4.74 in Accounting Education. Besides Shobowale Olumide Adekunle, the best graduating student in the Faculty of Engineering, others were women. Plateau commissioner dies during exercise

Plateau State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development Samuel Galadima has  slumped and died during an early morning exercise at Rwang Pam Township Stadium, Jos. Governor Simon Lalong mandated his exco to hold such exercises every fortnight, to ensure members remained active, fit and healthy for governance. He allegedly made the exercise compulsory for his commissioners. The late Galadima allegedly slumped in the middle of the exercise and went into coma; he was rushed to Plateau Specialist Hospital but died as doctors battled to revive him. Secretary to the State Government Rufus Bature, who confirmed the death in a statement yesterday, described it as a huge loss. ABA—A policeman, identified as Ibe Uchenna, has been arrested by the Abia State Police Command for allegedly killing a man in Aba. Uchenna, who is attached to the Central Police Station, Aba, was said to have shot the victim identified as Chinedu Peters, while on routine patrol with his team in front of Christ the King Cathedral Catholic Church, CKC, along Asa Road, Aba. Nigerian Police Vanguard gathered that a police team had accosted Peter and other passengers in a bus at the CKC area and ordered them to come out of their car and lie down. The victim obeyed, but later protested when another passenger in the bus was released by the police team. It was gathered that the deceased urged the police to release other passengers too, but in the ensuing argument, Ibe reportedly shot the victim. JALONGO—AGGRIEVED primary pupils and their teachers yesterday shut down Jalingo, Taraba State capital, barricading major streets and the gate of Taraba State Government House, over unpaid teachers’ salaries and other benefits. Four people, including an armed police officer and a man believed to be the attacker, died yesterday in a terrorist incident near the United Kingdom’s (UK’s) Houses of Parliament, Scotland Yard confirmed last night. One of the victims was among several pedestrians hit by a car on Westminster Bridge, before it crashed. An officer protecting the Parliament was stabbed by an attacker, who was shot by the police. At least 20 people were injured, including three other officers. Acting Deputy Commissioner and head of counter terrorism at the Metropolitan Police, Mark Rowley, said a major terrorist investigation was under way. He said the attack started shortly before 15:00 GMT when the four-wheel vehicle was driven over Westminster Bridge, hitting and injuring a number of members of the public and the three police officers, who were on their way back from a commendation ceremony. Senators yesterday told Customs chief Col. Hameed Ali to resign. The upper chamber declared the Customs Comptroller-General unfit to hold public office. The lawmakers resolved to ask Col. Ali to immediately throw in the towel in the interest of good governance and rule of law. The Senate also came down hard on the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, for allegedly advising Col. Ali to shun its invitation. The resolutions were made after about one hour 30 minutes closed session where issues concerning Col. Ali’s appearance in uniform were discussed.
