EFCC INTERCEPT 49 MILLION IN KADUNA AIRPORT

Exactly a week after it started operations as a replacement airport for the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, the Kaduna International Airport has come into the news for a strange reason. The sum of N 49 million was intercepted by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission as the huge was being ferried out through the airport. According to a statement released by the Spokesman for the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, the cash was found during a routine baggage screening. 700 dead as malaria ‘epidemic’ hits Burundi

About 700 people have died from malaria in Burundi so far this year,the health minister said, with the authorities having registered 1.8 million infections in a rising epidemic.“Burundi faces a malaria epidemic,” Josiane Nijimbere said Monday, commenting on a World Health Organization (WHO) report.From January 1 to March 10 this year, 1.8 million infections were registered in Burundi, according tothe WHO.MosquitoAccording to Nijimbere, the latest figures constitute a 17 percent increase from the same period last year.“Some 700 deaths” have been registered since January, the minister added.In 2016, an estimated 8.2 million people were infected and 3,000 people died in mountainous Burundi, which is home to around 11 million people.UN officials and medical sources say Burundi’s stock of anti-malaria medication is nearly empty.Nijimbere put the cost of fighting malaria at $31 million (29 million euros), as she appealed for donations to help fight the disease.She attributed the rise in infe

CHOLERA RAVAGE KILLS MANY IN ZAMFARA STATE IN NIGERIA

T he Commissioner for Health in Zamfara,  Alhaji Suleiman Gummi,said  that  no fewer than  80 people  had been killed  by choleraoutbreak in the state  in the last one month.The commissioner told newsmen on Tuesday in Gusau that 500 others were currently receiving treatment at various health facilities in the state.He said the disease had spread to 10 out of the 14 local government areas of the state.Gummi said the state government had established special camps and had deployed medicine and health personnel there to contain the situation.He said that the state government had reported the case to the Federal Government and more medical supports were being expected.The commissioner appealed to the citizens of the state to keep their environments clean and also ensure  to prepare their  food under hygienic conditions.The local government areas affected are; Bungudu, Maru, Maradun, Talata-Mafara and Bakura.Others are: Shinkafi, Anka, Kaura -Namoda, Birnin-Magaji and Zurmi.NAN also reports
